Kennett River lies between Lorne and Apollo Bay on the Great Ocean Road. It is a very popular surfing place in summer but in winter only the die-hard surfers are out. From its source in the Otway ranges the river runs into the sea across the sand and beside the rocks of the beach. I am not a surfer so I get my pleasure in winter from strolling with my camera beside the river looking for koalas and platypus or on the beaches searching for reflections and interesting shapes in the rock pools and sand.
In winter the intense contrasty light of dawn is rare so that the photographs are more muted and soft rather than the spectacular colours of a summer sunrise.

I love the “beached sea creatures” image. Very dramatic.
Impressive David.
