It was school holidays and we took our grandchildren by train into the Ian Potter Centre of NGV to see “Shifting Gear: Design, Innovation and the Australian Car”.
They liked the steam-powered horseless-carriage in the foyer and looked at all the cars on display but the design achievements over the years was lost on them. They were impressed by the multimedia display showing old movies of people they had never heard of, such as Jack Brabham.
Away from the car display they did enjoy the Australian paintings and were particularly taken with the installations and the fan-powered, multi-coloured, fluorescent tube mobile.
Over the road at Flinders Street Station they already aware of this wall featuring magnificent butterfly wings. I’m not at all sure what it means. Maybe I should get a twitter account and check out those hash-tags. And then, maybe not.
